Frequently Asked Questions (Students)
In order to register with the DSO and determine the appropriate services, you must share information about your health status and a valid health report signed by the specialist physician with the DSO personnel. During and after the evaluation process, DSO personnel do not share information about your health status, diagnosis and other related details with any person, unit or institution without your consent. Documents prepared by our office do not include your diagnostic information. Since these are not recorded in any database except DSO, they do not pose a problem after graduation. If you wish, you can share details about your health status with faculty members or relevant individuals and offices.
Reasonable accommodation in an educational setting means equal access to spaces, activities, and educational opportunities and services in the educational institution. Upon the student's application, DSO personnel examine the student's health reports approved by a specialist physician, conduct interviews to assess their needs and determine the appropriate accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are determined in accordance with the educational objectives of the university and the objectives of the relevant course. Applications that are contrary to the primary purpose and objectives are not considered within the scope of reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodations aim to ensure equal access, not success.
The director of the DSO, the relevant faculty member and the student must sign the letter. After you receive the information that the academic accommodation letter is ready, the signature process of the letters begins for each course. You come to the office and sign your letter. Each letter is delivered to you in a separate envelope to be signed by the relevant faculty member. You also bring the original to the DSO by having the relevant faculty member sign the accommodation letter.
Yes. Each semester you will have different courses. Although the services you need remain the same, the information in the documents should be updated according to the current semester. For this reason, after registering with the DSO, you must make a separate application each semester to benefit from the services of our office. It is the responsibility of the student to apply each semester.
Yes. You must present a valid medical report to the DSO at registration. To continue the services, you must renew your report periodically based on your disability status and the validity period of your report.
Yes. If you are taking an exam accommodation, it is helpful to remind the faculty member(s) of your accommodation before each exam. We recommend that you submit your questions and feedback regarding the implementation of the accommodations to the DSO within the relevant semester. From the time the letter reaches the faculty member(s), it is the responsibility of the student to follow up the process and notify the DSO on time of any problems or difficulties in the implementation of academic accommodations.
No. DSO services are implemented prospectively following your application and evaluation process. Retrospective accommodations are not made. Accommodation arrangements are planned before the evaluation (exam, presentation, homework, etc.) and do not include any retrospective applications.
Yes, we can. Your needs and appropriate services are determined after you apply to the DSO with your current health report.
You can get information about all scholarship opportunities from our University Scholarship Office. DSO does not accept scholarship applications.
